Play

  • Our goal is to have fun and have fair competition for all players at all levels.
  • We play ready golf.
  • Most standard golf rules and etiquette apply.
    • Example: 1 stroke penalty for O.B.
  • Pick, clean, and place is allowed on all areas of the course except for hazards, i.e., bunkers, fescue, and water (if you choose to attempt a shot).
  • If you find yourself on a fence, tree, or cart path, give yourself a decent backswing.
    • Do not pull it out of the area but also do not be in danger of damaging your club or hurting yourself/others.
  • “Gimme putts” are awarded based on the discretion of your opponent. (Typically a putter’s grip length.)
  • Stroke limit is double par.
  • The tee box you play from is determined by your average 5 iron distance. The below chart can be used as a guide to help you find your “ideal course yardage”. Sable Creek’s course yardages are also listed below.

Schedule

  • We have access to our Tee Time slot from March 16th, 2023 through November 2nd, 2023.
  • Our competitive match play season begins April 6th.
  • The season will be split into two 11 week halves with a championship match for each half being played on the 12th week of that half.
    • Regular Season Part 1 = April 6th – June 15th
      • First Half Championship = June 22nd
    • Regular Season Part 2 = June 29th – September 7th
      • Second Half Championship = September 14th
    • Overall Championship = September 21st
  • The overall Championship match will be between the first half champion and second half champion. With the runners up of each half also competing for 3rd and 4th place.
    • All other matches this week will be seeded based on your point total of the first and second half combined.
  • The weeks prior to our regular season and the weeks after our overall championship will be reserved for any rain outs that push the schedule back or “free play” nights where we can still come out and play but matches will not take place.

Scoring

  • Our scoring is based on match play with Handicaps.
    • Each hole has a handicap number on the scorecard. If you are a 6 handicap and your opponent is a 9 handicap then you give your opponent 1 stroke on the 3 most difficult holes — that is the “1” handicap hole through the “3” handicap hole.
  • There is a possible 10 points per match.
    • The player with the lowest score on each hole is rewarded 1 point or ½ a point if it is a tie.
    • And 1 point for net handicap score.
      • If you shoot a 45 and your handicap is a 5 then your net handicap score is 40. If your opponent shoots a 46 and their handicap is a 7 their net handicap score is 39 and they are rewarded 1 point.

Handicaps

  • Handicaps will start fresh each season and are calculated using the below chart.

Ghost Player

  • If a “ghost” player is needed, either because of an odd number of league members or an absentee, the “ghost” will be an even handicap but will shoot +6 each night. Which will translate to a bogey on the 6 hardest holes and par on the remaining 3.
  • This is to encourage everyone to show up each week or work to find a sub. If you are absent your “ghost” will likely have a scoring disadvantage.
  • Same scoring rules apply.

Skins and Greenies

  • The buy in for Skins and Greenies will be $5 each week if you wish to participate. $3 for Skins and $2 for Greenies.
    • The Skins pot will be split amongst each player that earns a skin that week. A skin is the lowest score on any hole between all league members.
    • The Greenie pot is awarded to the player that hits the green and is closest to the hole on a Par 3.
  • You must pay the Skins and Greenies fees to win.
